Lotto 5 Max

Lotto 5 Max is the second add-on to the main Lotto draw and replaced the former Lotto Plus 2 game when Sizekhaya Holdings took over the National Lottery on 1 June 2026. For an extra R2.50 per board it puts your Lotto numbers into a third draw with its own jackpot and prize divisions.

To play it you need to be playing both Lotto and Lotto Plus 1, which brings a full entry into all three draws to R10.00 per board. You do not pick new numbers: the six numbers from 1 to 52 on your Lotto board are carried into the Lotto 5 Max draw as well.

The Lotto 5 Max draw is the last of the three on Wednesday and Saturday evenings. Seven balls are drawn, six main numbers and a Bonus Ball, and matching three or more wins a prize. The odds of matching all six main numbers are 1 in 20,358,520, the same as in Lotto and Lotto Plus 1.

What sets Lotto 5 Max apart is how the jackpot behaves at the end of the month. It rolls over like any other jackpot during the month, but in the final draw of a calendar month an unwon jackpot cascades down to the lower divisions instead of rolling on, so the money is paid out rather than carried forward.

How to play

Pick 6 numbers from 1 to 52 for your Lotto board, or take a Quick Pick, then add both Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto 5 Max on your coupon or when playing online. The board costs R5.00, each add-on costs R2.50, so all three draws come to R10.00 per board including VAT.

Buy your ticket at an authorised retailer, on the National Lottery website or app, through a participating bank app or ATM, or by USSD. Multi-Draw keeps your numbers in play for 2 to 10 consecutive draws, and Multi-Play lets you add a seventh and eighth number so every possible six-number combination is entered as its own selection. A single player may spend up to R5,000 per game, and you must be 18 or older.

Draws take place at 21:00 on Wednesdays and Saturdays, in the order Lotto, Lotto Plus 1, Lotto 5 Max.

Half of the net ticket sales for each draw goes into the prize pool. The fixed prizes in divisions 4 to 8 are paid out first, and the rest is shared between divisions 1, 2 and 3 in the percentages above. Each selection wins in one division only, the highest one it qualifies for.

Only if neither division has a winner does the jackpot roll over to the next draw.
